I lost my sweet dog of 13 years on Monday. What a bittersweet reminder that my sweet boy knew how loved he was, even if he couldn't understand me. Thank you for your timely and beautiful words!

Mel Hofmann’s artwork on her medicine cards is amazing. Each image is unique. And the messages on each card are very powerful.

I enjoyed your story about your dog Luna.

While you may have been fantasizing about Luna's thoughts, there are people trained to communicate with animals who could probably verify that s/he adores you and is so grateful you adopted them. It's quite possible if not s/he would have been euthanized.

I read in a book at a coffee shop some time ago. The word was anthropomorphic that I looked up. I got the gist of what the author was talking about. It is basically animals having human characteristics. She wrote about how they couldn't. I disagree. Having had dogs and a few cats as family members during my life in my home, they have emotions just like humans. Our latest dog passed away at 17yrs. Deaf because of old age! Still very affectionate.

Hi Brenda, It’s hard not to believe they do. There is even some science behind it. Scans show dogs’ brains lighting up as much for affection as for food. So there! :)

Wonderful story which has inspired me to investigate the quirks of my own little fluffy dog! Also loved the photos and link to Mel Hofmann’s site. ❤️

Susanna, your story about Luna made me smile. I thought Magic, my 4 year old tortie cat was just very haughty and particular until in midst the all my pandemic at home time, I realized she was deaf. What a epiphany and how humbling. I began speaking to her face to face and suddenly my snobby cat has turned into a affectionate chatty lovebug. Love your new format. Subscribing.

I have an angel in my life. Her name is Jasmine and she's a 12 pound Chihuahua mix. I think of the stories I tell myself about what she is thinking as coping skills and therapy combined.

EXACTLY! It doesn’t even matter whether it’s in our heads. :)
