You're so kind, Susan. Thank you. And I'm so sad the Ukrainians will have to endure another winter before this is over. Best, s

I can't even describe what I feel after reading this piece. If there's one word for both sorrow and beauty I wish I knew what it was.

Oh thank you, Susan. And yes there must be a word for that in some language. Maybe in Ukrainian.

Stunning writing. The beauty you convey contrasted with the destruction taking place now is heartbreaking.

This is one of the most beautiful pieces I have read about the Ukraine. I, like you, am finding it difficult to go through my days knowing that bombs are being dropped on cities. There are no words for the horror I feel. Sometimes the only redemption I find is in artistry. Artistry exorcises horror. It is in the artistry of your words, and that beautiful skater that I find some redemption.

Oh, Wendy, thank you for the kind words. They mean so much. And what you say here about artistry and horror is so so true. Sending hugs from here.

Beautifully written Susanna. It is so sad to watch what is happening in Ukraine and Zelensky stay brave and strong and lest we forget the massacre that happened at Baba Yar during the Holocaust and perhaps this is also on Zelenesky's mind. My heart goes out to the Innocent killed in Ukraine especially the children.

Hi Rosie, thank you. And, my god, the symbolism of that strike, it's really just overwhelming.

The remembrance of the Holocaust and also against the free press. May they prevail.

I loved your story and commentary about going to Odessa. The video walk is interesting. So peaceful then, a lovely summer afternoon, everyone out strolling. And, those certainly are impressive steps!
